Forgive my bluntness, but no s**t Sherlock? You are one of a few million Canadian males who dont lay awake wondering if past indiscretions will catch up to them.

Also keep in mind that sexual indiscretions are not confined to males. Females and members of the gay community also commit indiscretions. Whenever there are interactions leading towards intimacy, there are minefields of misadventure awaiting. Not everyone is civil, respectful and ethical.

For most of us the transition to adulthood is a rough and tumble adventure. Reaching the age of majority does not suddenly infuse us with mature adult wisdom. We must each find our own way to maturity. Along the way, we suffer humiliations, bruised egos and hurt feelings. In most cases, we get over our hurts, dry our eyes and get on with growing up.

I do not condone or make excuses for sexual assaults, harassment, intimidation or interference. That is correctly viewed as over the line and the cause of real harm to the victims. As a society, we have done very little to hold perpetrators to account. The latest excuse for inaction is that we must protect the privacy of the individuals involved. Victims of sexual abuse want justice, not anonymity! Protecting the privacy of a sexual predator is a license to avoid sanctions for unacceptable behaviour.

We are currently allowing the media to step in as prosecutors of alleged sexual misconduct. Our government has abdicated its role in protecting the victims and dealing with the perpetrators on our behalf. Ensuring the safety and security of all citizens is an important part of a lawful, civil society.

Talking down to us as if we are Ms Brown's fifth grade class won't cut it. Endless yakking won't cut it.

Deal with it!

John Feldsted
