Peacekeepers indeed need specialized instruction not usually given to the regular military.  Canada did have the civilian-managed Pearson Peacekeeping Centre which for over a decade conducted training, public education and research that reflected the multidisciplinary realities of contemporary peace operations. Unfortunately the Centre was terminated in 2013 under the Harper government. 

The current government should re-establish a comprehensive training facility, should partner with other Canadian organizations involved in peace support, and should open the doors to participants from other countries.  Modern peacekeeping not only involves training of soldiers, but also police and an array of civilian teams specializing in humanitarian and disaster assistance, electoral support, human-rights monitoring, environmental services and conflict resolution.
