- The province of Saskatchewan voted for "socialism" under Tommy Douglas, and his party helped create the first single-payer, universal health care program on the continent - the precursor of Canadian Medicare which receives high public approval.
- In contrast, Donald Trump's America, that bastion of free market capitalism, makes it difficult for its poorest citizens to access affordable medical treatment.
- Today, Canada's New Democratic Party is calling for universal pharmaceutical drug coverage. Despite Anthony Furey's dire warnings about the "the ills of socialism", I'm willing to take my chances and take my medicine.
